Core Services

Highly Specialized Environments

Forsyth maintains specialty Core Services that provide specialized equipment and expertise for its investigators and, on a fee-for-service basis, to researchers from other institutions.

Core services include:

Microbial Microarray Core, a gene array service facility (mim.forsyth.org) for the detection of oral and other bacterial species.

Flow Cytometry Core, which offers four-color cell analysis and high speed cell sorting.

Molecular Biology Core, that offers DNA sequencing services.

Biostructure Core, which specializes in mineralized tissue analyses. This includes light and fluorescence microscopy, transmission and scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDAX), differential interference contrast (Nomarski) imaging, atomic force microscopy, laser capture microscopy, Piximus DEXA analysis, and confocal laser scanning head microscopy. Associated support services include sample preparation, ultrastructure, histology and image analysis of soft and mineralized tissue.

Biostatistics Core, which supports study design and data management relating to biometry, epidemiology and clinical trials.

Bioinformatics Core specializes in oral microbial genomics and microarray gene expression analyses through the integration of computer science with molecular biology and genetics. The Bioinformatics Core also provides the computational support to the Forsyth researchers for processing, analyzing, and interpretation of the biological data.

Imaging Services, which offers high-quality poster printing. For inquiries contact Jo Buchanan at jbuchanan@forsyth.org.

Library Services supports the information and knowledge management needs of the Forsyth community. This includes research and reference services to answer basic or challenging questions utilizing print, online and internet sources; citation verification of incomplete or incorrect references; expert searching on various topics including patents, journal impact factors, grant support; interlibrary loan for books or journal articles not held in our library; manages licenses for DNAStar Lasergene and Reference Manager; offers online tutorials of Microsoft applications; provides information on current copyright policy; teach PubMed and set up MyNCBI accounts; photocopy in house articles; keeps archival records, both text and photos chronicling the Forsyth's rich history.
