My scientific passion is to understand the physiologic and metabolic networks established between the human microbiota and host, and how these networks influence human health and disease. I am studying key nutritional and environmental determinants of nostril microbial communities. I am exploring the effect of mucin biopolymers, the main functional constituent of mucus, on pairwise interactions between the pathobiont Staphylococcus aureus, (a commensal microorganism that can cause severe disease) and benign members of the nostril microbial community.
