Dr. Helen Nguyen is a public health dentist and provides clinical care and oversight for the ForsythKids program. She is also focusing on program data analysis research, program improvements/innovation, and dental public health research.
She completed her Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) training at University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) and participated in leadership with public health outreach organizations and community service events throughout dental school. During her time at UCSF, she was selected for a Summer Research Fellowship program and completed a dental public health research project evaluating data from the San Francisco Department of Public Health school-based sealant program from 2007-2015. This project’s results helped inform the San Francisco children’s oral health strategic plan and helped solidify Dr. Nguyen’s passion for dental public health.
After completing dental school, she came to Massachusetts for a General Practice Residency training program with Harvard School of Dental Medicine and the Cambridge Health Alliance. She started with The Forsyth Institute in 2020 and is currently also training part-time as a HRSA fellow in the Dental Public Health Residency at Boston University School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Nguyen is interested in health education, program development/improvement, improving health outcomes for underserved populations, and the integration of oral health with overall health. She recently co-led the development of a medical tent model which allowed the ForsythKids team to provide care while building and visitor restrictions were in place during the pandemic. The video she created illustrating this model can be found here: https://vimeo.com/564721641.
