Course description:
Oral healthcare professionals work with saliva in daily practice so understanding the risks of exposure to contaminated saliva and aerosols during the dental care is critical. Therefore, oral healthcare professionals have to be well-positioned to work with saliva while understanding if routine testing for COVID-19 would help the clinicians to lower the risk. This presentation will discuss different types of tests available to test for COVID-19, how to interpret test results and the rationale for using testing in a dental setting. Development of a new rapid saliva test will be described for detection of both SARS-COV2 viral infection and host immunity, deployable at the population level.
